Doula Diaries: A week in the life...(birthdays, birthdays, everywhere)

Ever wonder what it's like to be a doula with a family? I'll tell ya! Welcome to my doula life! My main characters are Mike, my superhero of a husband and father to our three children; Jace, my 11 year old guitar-playing, x-box loving, sharp-witted son; Kaia, my 9 year old sunshine daughter; and Ty, my 26-month old whirlwind of a toddler. And then there's me! I've been doulaing since 2011 and have attended more than 70 births to date and have taught over 100 couples in my childbirth classes. This is my full-time gig! Birth Announcement! Brody Jean Elise

Little miss Brody Jean Elise sweetly arrived on the morning of October 20th, 2016 at 5:47am, to her awesome parents Stef and Chuck, with Bob Marley singing her welcome song. I was honored to support their labor and birth as their doula. Stef found my birth classes months before her due date, and throughout the course of class they decided a doula was an important part of their birth team. It was a pretty perfect match. The Fourth Trimester refers to that period of time when baby and mother are inseparable, as it was designed by nature, for the first three-ish months of baby's life. And yes, dads

Birth Affirmation: Fill up your boat, stay on top of the wave

Here's one that I've organically added to my repertoire when I doula at a birth. I find that birthing mothers identify with the imagery of the waves, and filling up the boat helps to give reason to focus on the breath and puts mom in control of keeping the boat afloat with her breath. How does this one feel for you? Feel f
