We had an incredible experience with our doula, Tara, during our son’s birth, so working with her again was an easy and immediate decision. She was one of the first people I told when we found out we were expecting again, and I also shared that I knew in my heart that a home birth was the right choice this time. From there, she helped us thoughtfully assemble our birth team.

At Mindful Birth, this doula-supported birth story follows Nicole’s 25-hour labor and early delivery at 36 weeks. After a difficult first postpartum experience, choosing a doula brought advocacy, natural labor support, and breastfeeding success, creating a more positive and empowered second birth.

When we got to the hospital my husband literally left the car running with all the doors open while we were checking into the hospital. Kelly (my doula) was calmly explaining to them that I was in transition and there is an urgency. Luckily my OB, Dr. Miller who we met with that morning, was in the lobby. The team at NCH responded quickly.

This birth experience has left me feeling so grateful, so empowered, and so relieved. I truly feel this experience would not have been as positive without the help of Tara. She was right there with me through the hardest parts. She has this calmness about her that I can only describe as a super power. I had just safely delivered my baby in the most redeeming and magical way I could have ever imagined.

My C-section was urgent so there were a lot of people moving very quickly but carefully.
